Produced by Karamo Coffee in partnership with local farming communities, this exceptional lot is led by Niguse Gemeda, winner of the 2020 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence. His commitment to quality, traceability, and supporting smallholder farmers is reflected in every harvest, creating a coffee that truly represents the best of the Sidama highlands.

Grown at elevations of up to 2,380 metres above sea level, the coffee cherries mature slowly in the cool mountain climate, developing remarkable sweetness and complexity. Using traditional natural processing methods, the cherries are carefully sun-dried to enhance their vibrant fruit character while preserving the unique qualities of the region.

Our medium roast highlights juicy notes of apricot and yellow peach, balanced by a bright citrus acidity and a smooth, clean finish. It's an elegant, fruit-forward coffee that showcases why Ethiopian coffees are among the most celebrated in the world.

About the Region

The Sidama region lies in the fertile highlands of southern Ethiopia, where coffee grows at some of the highest elevations in the world. Rich volcanic soils, cool mountain temperatures, and consistent rainfall create ideal conditions for producing coffees celebrated for their vibrant fruit flavours, floral aromas, and exceptional clarity.

Ethiopia is widely recognised as the birthplace of Arabica coffee. According to local legend, a goat herder named Kaldi discovered coffee more than a thousand years ago after noticing his goats became unusually energetic after eating bright red coffee cherries. Whether fact or folklore, the story reflects Ethiopia's deep cultural connection to coffee—a tradition that continues today through the country's famous coffee ceremonies, where preparing and sharing coffee is a symbol of hospitality, friendship, and community.
